The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has given a broad welcome to the European Commission tyre labeling regulation, which come into effect in 2012.

The ETRMA says the tyre labeling regulations will influence consumers to buy more energy efficient and safer tyres through the provision of harmonised and easy to understand information.

The availability of reliable and comparable information on tyre performance will make it easier for the end-user to consider these elements before making a purchase decision.

This new initiative, according to the ETRMA offers will enabling consumers to purchase tyres which surpass the limits set in the vehicle safety regulation (COM(2008)316) and will accelerate market transformation towards even more fuel efficient and safer tyres.
